Blog EntryGenSan: Day 7Sep 7, '06 11:12 AM
for everyone

We went out to buy a styrofoam box at the wet market then headed for Citra Mina to buy some tuna to bring home. We then went to the Tuna Grill and Restaurant on Quirino Street for some lunch.

After which we went to KCC Mall for some last minute shopping. Went back to the hotel for a short nap. Then back to the market to buy a small durian, dropped it off at our hotel then back to KCC for some dinner. When we got back to the hotel we were surprised to find so many police at the wet market. Seemed like there was a gang war and someone threw a bomb there. Don't know what else happened aside from that. When we got into our hotel room, I immediately called my dad to let him know we were ok. Texted some of my friends as well to let them know our state.

for everyone
We woke up quite late today. So we just went to KCC Mall again to look around and see there was anything we didn't notice during our past few days stay here. After lunch we went back to the hotel since my medicine was once again making me sleepy. After a short nap we went to the wet market to buy two more malongs, one for Clair and the other for Sacha. I was also able to buy something for Art as well. Still couldn't find anything for Choppy though.

In the morning we went to the wet market next to our hotel to continue our search for some pasalubong and souvenirs. As you can see, I ended up buying several malongs for myself. Afternoon was just spent resting at the hotel before we went out in the evening to watch the fireworks that would signal the end of the city's Tuna Festival.

We spent the whole Monday at KCC Mall. Morning was spent looking around the shops looking for some pasalubong to bring home. I found some malongs but didn't buy them since I figured I could get a better deal somewhere else.

In the afternoon we watched the 1st Tuna Festival Culinary Skills Mini-olympics. Those competing were all students from different high schools. We weren't able to watch the first two competitions (Sashimi preparation and table napkin folding). But we were able to see them compete in table skirting, flower arrangement, and bartending. I'll upload some videos I took when I get home.

Blog EntryGenSan: Day 3Sep 3, '06 11:41 AM
for everyone

We woke up a bit late. Ordered a breakfast of tuna longganisa. We then
went to watch the national dog olympics. The weather was so hot that
the dogs had trouble performing. Left the event so we could have
lunch. My allergy medication was making it hard for me to keep awake
so we headed back to the hotel. After a short nap, we went back to the
Oval Plaza to buy dinner good for four people, though there were only
two of us. Bought some bread made with anise.

Tita Zeny took us to the bus to GenSan. Bus trip was uneventful. We
slept through most of the way. No problem finding the hotel. We rested
a couple of hours before we went to KCC Mall. Had a good late lunch.
Bought some stuff on sale. Went back to the hotel. Went to Oval Plaza
to take part in the Sashimi Buffet. Bought huge pieces of tuna roe
(bihod) that were grilled to perfection. :)

Was also able to meet up with two phphoto people: Leonard and Ronald.
We got to meet the mayor of GenSan too! :D

For some odd reason, I'm unable to send email using my pda.
Fortunately gmail has a mobile version. So now I end up typing away
this post on my phone. Thank goodness for predictive texting. :)

Dom's parents met me and Ate Amie at the Davao airport. After which we
went straight to their home. The area was nice and quiet. I got to
see their dogs. Really cute! Their golden retriever is such a bundle
of energy! Funny how it loves to play with rocks! We had a good talk
about food, dogs, sights and Dom. :)

I'll be leaving my beloved laptop behind and my Zire 72, my mom's digital camera and my cellphone will be the only gadgets on the trip. Eight days with no email! I recalled how Art had brought along his laptop to do some work while he was in Boracay earlier this year. (D-O-H! There's a reason why it's called a vacation, you know?!) I have to admit though. Even now I'm feeling the apprehension of not being able to check my mail for so long (Not one word, Mr. Ilano!)

I have been testing the post-by-email feature of multiply, succeeding in posting via MMS. (Whee!) Yeah, at least I won't be totally offline. I can still post my photos. If only I can get GPRS working on my PDA, then it would be cheaper for me to post my day-to-day activities. :D
